SL 217: COMPUTING FOR
SURVEYING II
START Tuesday 7th Dec 17 @ 12:45PM – STOP:
Thursday 7th Dec 17 @ 12:45PM
Consider the
data attached in the .CSV file for your reference in this exam:
Whereas the RTK was very reliable and accurate, the assistant surveyor (chainman) used by the surveyor on the project was a massive drunkard, occasionally the assistant would mess up and either save uncoordinated data or he would mistakenly adjust the pole height by leaning on the it while measuring. This always prompted the surveyor to always take precautionary measures before handing over the rover to the assistant and after receiving it back.
To safe guard
his accuracy and precision in the data this is what he did.
He would set
up the equipment and at the start and close of the day’s work he would observe
at the same point. He would also over the course of the days’ work (approximately
every Hour) call him back to the same specific point and he would observe it.
The point he
used to calibrate his work was called BMK-1718 and every hour or so the
surveyor required his relatively high assistant to observe at this station.
The
established coordinates of the point as measured by the surveyor were:
E: 299171.226m N: 139068.541m Z 1150.914m
He always went
home happy with his data knowing it was safe and he would always correct it in
case of needed to produce the map.
You are that confident surveyor so
produce the topographical map of your work.
Download your data from the field work using the link below:
Point 331: Has an error stand by for correction
ReplyDeleteAccording to our data its point 338
ReplyDeleteI think its 337 according to your data file:
DeleteHowever, note that that it is attributed with remark WS11
Librarian
The Point 331: Remark WS11
ReplyDeleteElevation value is 1157.386
PS: Don't rush in your analysis but rather take time to understand the question and procedures of the field exercise.

Good Luck
Sir help us with the description of the topo
ReplyDeleteOk.
DeleteLet me organize & upload
Librarian
Sir we are still waiting for the descriptions
ReplyDeleteSir, in what format should we submit the finished work.
ReplyDeleteSUBMISSIONS SHOULD BE IN THIS FORMAT
DeleteI expect a zipped folder containing the following
1. A .DWG file of the topo map
2. A .CSV file of final Coordinates
3. A computational file of how student adjusted the coordinates to attain final .CSV imported to CAD
Librarian
Questions should be posted here so that they benefit the whole class

We were not given remarks
ReplyDeleteWith all due respect sir,the remarks are not easy not interpret ie SST, DW, CS, FP, RSV.....is CS a control station or it means something else
ReplyDeleteI understand and relate with your concern and observation Charles, but part of the perceptions would have been affected if I had directly communicated the remarks. It could have given away what kind of site it was thereby making it predictable and subject to more forgery when connecting the points - so a little bit of mystery was important for my exam. I will treat the discernment of the remarks as added bonus while grading.
DeleteGood evening
ReplyDeletetried to upload my assignment to kmbasta@gmail.com and a msg that the email doesnt exist popped
why?
